- Activation Temperature
- The temperature at which a fire suppression device activates. Microencapsulated fire patches typically activate at 170°C (338°F).
- BESS
- Battery Energy Storage System. Large-scale battery installations for grid storage, often housed in containers or dedicated buildings.
- Clean Agent
- A fire suppression agent that leaves no residue after discharge. Examples: FK-5-1-12 (Novec 1230), FM-200, inert gases.
- EN 50600
- European standard for data center design and operation, including fire protection requirements.
- FK-5-1-12
- The chemical formula for 3M Novec 1230, a clean agent fire suppression fluid with zero ozone depletion potential and a GWP of 1.
- GWP
- Global Warming Potential. FK-5-1-12 has a GWP of 1, compared to 3,220 for HFC-227ea (FM-200).
- Microencapsulation
- A technology that encases fire suppression agents in microscopic polymer shells, released when temperature reaches the activation threshold.
- NFPA
- National Fire Protection Association. Publisher of fire safety codes and standards widely adopted in North America.
- Point-of-Origin Suppression
- Fire suppression that targets the fire at its source within an equipment enclosure, rather than flooding an entire room.
- Thermal Runaway
- A chain reaction in Li-ion batteries where increasing temperature causes further reactions, potentially leading to fire or explosion.
- UL
- Underwriters Laboratories. Global safety certification organization with specific standards for fire suppression equipment.
Installation, inspection and maintenance must be performed by qualified personnel in accordance with applicable local codes and regulations.
